Biological brothers Ace Kane and Five Star Fred are born and bred Portland, OR natives. The duo began their rap journey in the early 90’s as two musically inclined youngsters with aspirations of being rap legends. In the mid 2000’s, the collective encountered marginal mainstream success behind their regional standout records “Paper Dance” and “I Can Make You Famous,” which eventually led to the 2Reps becoming one of the most requested local groups in Jammin 95.5 radio history.
The group’s meteoric rise was halted by a series of unforeseen circumstances eventually causing their hiatus and derailing their promising careers. Behind a fresh new beginning, the brothers are focused and determined to solidify their spot among today’s hip-hop scene.
In the last 12 months they’ve released a single in “I Just Wanna Smoke” and have followed it up with a unanimous banger in “Sleeping Bags.” I spoke to 2 Reps recently and am excited to bring them to your cpu, or laptop, or phone or whatever you’re using to view this lol. Peep below!
Que: Sleeping Bags is a hot record, which one of you is that on the chorus?
Fred: We are both on the chorus actually. We worked that out.
Is “Sleeping Bags” along with “I Just Wanna Smoke” gonna be on the album?
Ace: Yes yes yes. They’ll both be on the “Pole City Redemption” album – just happy to be getting good feedback you know.
Dope. So who produces you guys stuff?
Fred: We like to work with a lot of different producers, we’ll have some local producers such as Blue Magic, Trox and Yoseff as well as producers such as the legendary Battle Cat and Terrace Martin.
If there’s a producer who’s on the rise and wants to work with you how can they reach out to you?
Ace: Easy man hit us on IG or search Facebook, [email protected]
I was bumping the “I Just Wanna Smoke” single and I started wondering who smokes the most between you two?
Ace: That would be me [laughs]
How often do you smoke?
Ace: Honestly like 10 times a day
Fred: [laughs]… Just a couple times a day
Do you ever do music without smoking?
Fred: Sometimes, it varies.
Ace: I can’t say that I do. I never do music without it
How do you manage to keep weed relevant to your music, but it doesn’t seem to be 100% you guys some other artists. How do you manage that balance?
Ace: We just make music that feels good to us and it’s not always about weed you know.
Do you have any major features that you hope to get in soon?
Fred: We’re working on some stuff right now, you’ll just have to stay tuned and see
What did you think of The Grammy’s if you saw the Grammy’s at all?
Ace: Kendrick broke new ground, his performance was amazing
If you could do a song with one deceased artist, who would it be?
Fred: You already know 2Pac and after him would have to be Eazy
When’s Pole City Redemption supposed to drop?
Summer 2016
What’s something about you that people may not guess by just viewing you online? Any other talents, hobbies etc.?
Fred: We like the outdoors fishing, camping. We’re big kids we like to have fun.
Who were your favorite artists? Both of you.
Ace: Mac Dre, Snoop Dogg, The Jacka (RIP)
Fred: 2Pac, Biggie, Slim Shady
Do you listen to any other genres?
Fred: Good music is good music we’re open minded to anything that sounds good
I feel like you guys are LA artists for some weird reason although I know you’re from Portland. Do you guys hear that often?
Ace: We’re West Coast artists, so we’re influenced by LA as well as other parts of Cali but our content is unique to Portland.
