On August 9, 2014, Michael Brown, an 18-year-old African American was gunned down on the streets of Ferguson, Missouri by Darren Wilson, a Caucasian Ferguson police officer who is now retired from the force shortly after no charges were filed against him, sparking not only protests and civil unrest throughout the northern suburb, but nationwide attention between African Americans and law enforcement, giving more awareness to the #BlackLivesMatter movement.
Grammy Award winning artist, producer and songwriter Courtney Orlando lives within the city and was moved to send a message to his fellow Black men. With the press overrun with stories of unarmed black men killed by police and with the Michael Brown tragedy, the best way to survive these dangerous times, is together, thus his track, “Brother Song”, which captures the solidarity of #BlackLivesMatter.
