Back on Aug. 8, 2015, hip-hop suffered the devastating loss of Sean Price at age 43. Even three years later, Price’s voice and strong presence still lives on in the rap community. Fellow Brooklyn native Mic Handz paid tribute to Sean and his loved ones with the release of their two-track Alive EP last month, and Handz returns with the official “Conceit” video featuring the last known footage of the Heltah Skeltah rapper, which was featured on Billboard.com.
“After Sean laid his verse he said, ‘Don’t rap, you can lay yours later, play another beat.’ Then came ‘Conceit’ and another recording that went on to be my only Heltah Skeltah feature. The very last communication I had with Sean was in regards to my friendship and the EP,” Mic Handz revealed to Billboard. “Sean texted, ‘Im not ignoring you, I just have a few things going on. Just send the beats.’ That was Aug. 6th, 2015, and Sean went on to pass away on Aug. 8th.”
The Bobby SixShooter-directed clip features a phone call between Price and the Def Squad artist, as Handz makes his way over to the Imperius Rex rapper’s compact Brooklyn apartment to exchange bars with the iconic MC. Fans can still donate to Price’s family at his official Crowdrise site, which has accumulated more than $95,000 in donations from the supportive public.
