Mysterious artist out of Long Island presents exciting new sound
LONG ISLAND, NY – Who is Loby?
That’s the question more and more people along the East Coast are asking themselves after hearing the sound of this new artist out of Long Island, New York. With a mysterious persona and unknown origins, this edgy hip-hop artist and R&B singer/songwriter is drawing attention with songs like “Sorority Girl” and “Files and the Chronicles.” With strong melancholic vibes and deeply transparent lyrics, Loby is creating an atmosphere that puts the listener into a world they’ve never experienced before. And it has many of them wondering who this person is. But if Loby has his way, that air of mystery will always surround him.
“My goal is just to make people happy with my music, and I don’t care if my name is attached to it,” he said. “I love the idea of a mystery – it’s more engaging. And it’s something different that hasn’t been done in a long time. My sound is very edgy hip-hop, but no mainstream emo rap. It’s almost like if Travis Scott, Bryson Tiller and The Weeknd all had a love child, I’d fit that category.”
Every one of Loby’s songs is written by him, and every lyric is true, he said – even when he exaggerates. Part of the mystery of his sound comes from the fact that he vacillates between hip-hop and R&B from one song to another. The most recent example of that is “Sorority Girl” and “Files and the Chronicles.” The first is a pure R&B song that tells the story of a young college boy who wants to get with a sorority girl. It’s a song that is perfect for the college-age audience, but any teenage boy or young man will relate with it, as well. “Files in the Chronicles” is another R&B song that lets listeners inside Loby’s head.
“There are a lot of stories I love to release out and tell to friends, but there are some stories that I keep in my head,” he said. “This is one of those songs that tells a very in-depth story that if people hear it and pay attention they’ll learn a lot about me and my music.”
Other recent singles like “Feels Right” and “Lessons” allow listeners to enjoy some head-nodding trap melodies, as well. His next single, “Expedite,” returns to hip-hop with a chill but upbeat vibe. It’s a song that is essentially Loby at his current age talking to the past version of himself from high school, explaining certain scenarios and doling out life lessons.
Loby said he plans to continue releasing a single per month, with the intention of assuring fans that he’ll always be continuously making music and consistently providing them with new songs.
