As we near the release of his solo debut, Blaq RoyalT, Young RJ lets us hear a sneak peek of his new single, “Issues,” featuring BJ The Chicago Kid.
Music is a connector, as we all know. Play it at a party, watch us dance; play it in a grocery store, watch us cook to the beat. It is a beautiful invention that could’ve only been something mastered by the divine. With that in mind, Young RJ gives audiophiles something to play on repeat, as “Issues” serves as the Slum Village artist’s third single from his debut album.
Known as Blaq RoyalT, the 12-track album is filled to the brim with tales about living for the city, our current battle against politricks and, of course, personal inner demons. “This collaboration could have not come at a better time,” Young RJ said to us exclusively. “Given the economic struggles in cities like Detroit and Chicago, current police violence and our current political climate.”
Featuring the soulful sounds of BJ The Chicago Kid, these two connect to deliver a deeply rich brand of thought provoking lyrics that paint a frighteningly real picture.
“Issues” emboldens the fervor for Blaq RoyalT, which is scheduled for release on Oct. 10, 2017. Other tracks such as “Wait” (Pete Rock, Boldy James) and “Huh?” are on the album with the former featuring a rare appearance from both of J Dilla’s daughters.
