MESSAGE FROM THE FAMILY
Friends and family all around the country and around the world, on April 20th 2016 we lost a very special person near and dear to our hearts to a rare type of leukemia called Acute Myeloid Leukemia. His name was Michael Mena.
For weeks everyone thought Michael just had a bad case of the flu. The doctors later discovered the cancer made his white blood cell count go up abnormally. Because the leukemia was fast attacking, it quickly attacked his brain, causing it to bleed out. The bleeding caused him to become agitated and disoriented. In order to calm him down the doctors had to put Michael on strong sedatives to put him in a deep sleep. That day, April 8th was the last day we got to see him with his eyes open. From then on the doctors did all they could to control his blood and fight off the leukemia, they performed a dialysis, put him through intensive chemotherapy, and had to continue to give him sedatives to help lower his fever. In an attempt to reduce the swelling, the doctors gave him Sodium Chloride through IV. After a 12 day fight, on April 20th, 2016 at 9 in the morning we lost a brother, a son, a uncle, a cousin and a friend.
Mikey was such a great person. His personality was energetic, his love was selfless, always with a never quit attitude. His memory will live on through us. This is a very difficult time for all of us but atleast we know Mikey is no longer suffering and in a better place.
We are asking for anything you are able to contribute with. This will go very far to help Michael’s family and the arrangements.
No parent should endure having to bury their own child. Please help us as friends, as family, as a community to take some of the weight off or their shoulders.
