HOT 97 has been a presence in New York hip hop culture for decades, and the many of the on-air personalities and DJs have been around since the 90s. So far, within the last year, we’ve seen the departure of beloved talents like Angie Martinez and Mister Cee, and as of today, yet another OG in the radio game is bidding the station farewell.
Cipha Sounds has decided to part ways with HOT 97, airing his frustrations with the station on a recent episode of the Juan Epstein podcast. While Cypha transferred from the morning show to Angie’s 3 PM slot following her departure, he apparently never felt comfort or support from the station, and has decided to move on.
HOT 97 has released an official statement on the matter, with a press release reading, “Effective immediately, Cipha Sounds is no longer with WQHT HOT 97 FM. We wish him well on his future endeavors.”
Cipha gave his own final words on Instagram today, hinting at big plans ahead.
