The Hip-Hop Hall of Fame is set to open its doors in 2017 in honor of the culture and musical genre. Two locations are set to pop-up in both Midtown and Harlem, each presenting a historical look into important past relics as well as elements that have defined the culture. Donated items courtesy of Run-DMC, Salt-N-Pepa, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, Outkast, Young Jeezy, Common, Eminem, Grandmaster Flash and Afrika Bambaataam will represent part of the attraction which will also do its part to educate museum-goers on the fundamentals of hip-hop including DJing, B-boys and B-girls as well as graffiti. The 12,000 square-foot Harlem location will represent the smaller of the two locations while the Midtown location near Times Square will measure in at 50,000 square feet. The total cost of the efforts are slated to be $80 million USD. While the locations have been established, four influential pioneers in Afrika Bambaataa, Grand Wizzard Theodore, Grandmaster Melle Mel and Grandmaster Caz Brown were vocal about having the museum located in hip-hop’s birthplace, the Bronx. Construction is due to begin in summer of 2015.
