Ahead of his SXSW 2016 debut, the chart-topping New Zealand rapper steps up his game with the intense “Quarterbacks” video.

The Musebox today announced the release of “Quarterbacks,” the innovative and intense new blend of hip-hop and electronica from iTunes chart-topper and New Zealand favorite Diaz Grimm. Called “a new rap superstar” in The New Zealand Herald’s 4-star review of his Osiris debut album, Grimm identifies “culture change” as his main goal. Loaded with positive messages that leave out gimmicky vibes, Grimm’s Osiris (2015) went straight to #1 on New Zealand’s iTunes hip-hop charts. Grimm was also named a finalist for Hip-Hop Album of the Year at the Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards. Grimm will make his U.S. debut in March when he appears at SXSW 2016.

After writing Osiris for nine months, Grimm finished the project with a 10-day stint in the Red Bull Studios in Auckland. The album also reached the official top 20 of New Zealand’s album chart, and is now the world’s most upvoted self-posted music on Reddit’s Hip Hop Heads.

After touring with New Zealand’s biggest band, Six60, during the summer of 2015, Grimm has been invited to play SXSW 2016. Rip It Up Magazine recently confirmed the belief held by Grimm’s New Zealand fans that the only thing that tops the rapper’s ambitions is his live performance:

“It’s as a live performer that Diaz Grimm really shines. With a bombastic stage presence, tight rhymes, and enough oomph to put a battalion of energizer bunnies to shame, Diaz Grimm is a veritable dynamo on stage.”
